Get to Know Team Third Leg_Volume 4: Sarah Rivin
Name: Sarah Rivin
Shoe Size: 9 women's
How long have you been with BOMF? Since April 2011.
What do you get most out of running with BOMF? Constant inspiration. BOMF res members get up at 5:45 in the morning to run when so often they have so little and no support system. If they can do that, why can't I (or anyone else, for that matter)? One of my favorite memories is of a newer BOMF member being the first of the residents to say he'd try a 3.1 mile route one morning (the furthest he'd gone). I feel so lucky to know people who fight to improve their own lives like that.
Favorite race ever done [feel free to add why]? The National Half Marathon in March, 2011. My first half marathon!
Complete the following sentence: In my daily routine, I cannot live without a bowl of cereal and a glass of orange juice (Trop50!) for breakfast.
3 people [alive or dead...athletes or not] with whom you would like to share a large, chocolate milk shake. Madeleine Albright (a badass), Jillian Michaels (a badass), Brian Wilson (a badass playing for the most badass sports team)
Little know, complete useless fact about yourself. I hate taking vitamins or medicine. Yuck!

How long have you been with BOMF? I started running at the WDC launch in March 2010
What do you get most out of running with BOMF? When I started running with BOMF, I signed up for the opportunity to giving back, but as everything in life it comes full circle. I enjoy the camaraderie of the residence and non-residence alike. When you are running it is all about getting to the next mile.
Favorite race ever done [feel free to add why]? Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon, because it is awesome that is why.
Complete the following sentence: In my daily routine, I cannot live without:angry birds, exercising (swim, bike, run)
3 people [alive or dead...athletes or not] with whom you would like to share a large, chocolate milk shake:
My Grandfather – he worked at a dairy, I bet he could make a kick ass milkshake
Warren Miller – “If you don’t do it this year, you will be one year older when you do”
Bob Marley - although I am guessing he did not spend much time drinking milk shakes
Little know, complete useless fact about yourself: I once worked as an EMT and quit because I got tired of listening to my co-workers talking about fishing

Hot shirts...
We have finalized the design for our shirts! We are hoping to make some running shirts as well as t-shirts. To do so, we could really use some sponsors!!! If you are interested in getting your company's logo on the shirts, send David Shove-Brown a message and we can make it happen!

We are official...
So we are really going to do this...we are really going to run 200 miles in 24 hours as a 12 person team...this is really going to happen...
Yep, we have stepped up our game and are getting ready for the 2011 DC Ragnar Relay representing Back On My Feet and the Blair House. After little debate and much laughter, we have decided to become "Team Third Leg".
As we are running representing BOMF, we are looking to raise $3,600 [the cost to sponsor two runners for one year in the program] before race weekend [September 23 - 24]. Back on My Feet is a nonprofit organization that promotes the self-sufficiency of those experiencing homelessness by engaging them in running as a means to build confidence, strength and self-esteem. Back on My Feet (BoMF) does not provide food nor does it provide shelter, but instead provides a community that embraces equality, respect, discipline, teamwork and leadership. All members - regardless of race, education or socioeconomic status - join together to move their own lives forward as well as the lives of their teammates.
To reach this goal, we need EVERYONE'S help. Here are some ideas:
1. Donate to the cause, using the link on the right. No amount is too small...clean out your sofa, glove box in your car, spouse's wallet...whatever!!!
2. Follow us on this blog and on Facebook.
3. Join us for a morning training run at Blair House on Monday, Wednesday or Friday at 5:45 AM [yes, that says AM people].
4. Come cheer us on at Blair House on Monday, Wednesday or Friday at 5:45 AM.
5. Offer your laundry services for our nasty running clothes...90+ degree heat + running many miles = stinky clothing.
We are excited to be doing this incredible race for a spectacular organization. Please help us reach our goal. We will see you on the road!
